“Royal Cyclopean” gave us our first preview of the ESP Ohio project, consisting of Robert Pollard on vocals, Doug Gillard on guitar, Mark Shue on bass, and Travis Harrison on drums and as producer. On first listen, I wasn’t sure quite what to make of it; I guess the trumpet threw me off a bit, as only a handful of Pollard songs feature horns. It didn’t take long, however, for this song and album to become a favorite for me and many others.
