“Orange Jacket” uses a lot of Robert Pollard’s signature arpeggio style guitar, which involves a fretted note on a low string followed by the two strings above it being played open in succession. The song has a few repeating sections but they are sometimes played slightly differently from one time to the next, and I can’t help but wonder if that may just be the result of the band having rushed to record without learning the tune fully. The imperfections are part of what I love about this song. Sloppy GBV is sometimes the best GBV in my opinion (my favorite album will probably always be Alien Lanes for this reason).
