“Interest Position” has long been one of my favorite Guided By Voices songs, and I think the main reason is the three-part vocal harmonies. I had always assumed it was the work of Robert Pollard alone, overdubbing extra vocals on top of his melody track. It wasn’t until a year or two ago that I discovered those harmonies were actually the combined efforts of Pollard, Gillard, and Gillard: Pollard singing the melody and Doug Gillard laying on two vocal harmony tracks. Their voices blend so well, I don’t think I would have guessed it wasn’t all Pollard.
